Magic the Gathering Card Buying Tips?

So… I haven’t been on here in awhile, but I need some tips!

The thing that will determine the price of a lot of Magic: The Gathering cards is whether the lot includes specific rare cards that are used in the most competitive tournament decks. If said rares are what you want you will need to spend much more than $30.00. But if he is only playing casually and not in tournaments you might check out the starcitygames.com gold collection (1,000 cards) for $22.99. The other options I can think of close to your price range are buying a deck builder’s toolkit which has 285 semi random cards (60 of which are contained in four booster packs) for about $20.00 or a fat pack for $39.00 which has 225 cards if you include the lands. The reason the fat pack costs more is it contains 9 booster packs compared to just 4 in the deck builder’s toolkit which means more rares if you buy the fat pack. You know your boyfriend better than I do. If he is competitive he may want to eventually play in tournaments, in which case the fat pack would probably provide him with the most useful cards. If you decide to buy a fat pack, the most relevant ones to buy are the Scars of Mirrodin, Mirrodin Besieged, or New Phyrexia. Hope this helps!
